The Local Government Service Commission has responsibilities for:

Appointment of persons to hold or act in offices of the Local Government Councils (including power of appointments, promotions, postings and transfer and confirmation of appointments).
Exercising disciplinary control over persons holding or acting in offices of Local Government Councils.
Delegating with the approval of the Governor, its powers under the law to a committee of the Local Government Council or the Secretary to the Local Government.
Selecting for training, members of the Unified Local Service and the management of the Local Government Staff Training School Fund in collaboration with the Department of Local Government.
