The Local Government Service Commission has responsibilities for:
- Appointment of persons to hold or act in offices of the Local Government Councils (including power of appointments, promotions, postings and transfer and confirmation of appointments).
- Exercising disciplinary control over persons holding or acting in offices of Local Government Councils.
- Delegating with the approval of the Governor, its powers under the law to a committee of the Local Government Council or the Secretary to the Local Government.
- Selecting for training, members of the Unified Local Service and the management of the Local Government Staff Training School Fund in collaboration with the Department of Local Government.
