The Ministry of Health has responsibilities for:

• Health Policies
• Health Sector Development Programmes
• Administration of the State Government Hospitals and allied Health Institutions through the Health Management Board
• Pharmaceutical Services including Inspection and Patent Medicine Licensing
• Registration of Private/Voluntary Institutions
• Training institutions for Nurses and Midwives, Health Superintendents, Pharmacy Assistants, and other Paramedical Staff and Health Workers.
• Traditional medicine
• Liaison with other State Services and National Bodies in the Health Services
• Relations with the State University Teaching Hospital
