The State Audit Department has responsibilities for:
- Auditing the accounts of the Accounting Officers and all persons entrusted with collection, receipts, custody, issue, sales, transfer, and delivery of any stamps, securities, stores, or property of the State Government.
- Examination of the Accounts of any organization receiving funds from the Government, including corporations, voluntary agencies, or commercial institutions in which the Government has an interest.
- Pre-payment auditing of all purchases of stores and equipment by Government Departments, Local Government Councils and Parastatals.
- Verification and Certification of retiring benefits papers of all public officers.
- Issuing surcharge certificate for recovery of debts.
